In 1962 Fred led Hunslet to the 2nd division championship and the Yorkshire cup final(first since 1907-08) beating H.K.R 12 points to 2.
Fred then led Hunslet to the challenge cup final in 1965 narrowly losing to Wigan 20-16 in what is known as the finest Rugby League game ever to grace Wembley.
Fred was also instrumental in changing the club colours back to the old Chocolate and White worn in 1884 till 1932.
